Team India is currently playing in the ICC World T20 2022 in Australia. They are in the Group B. They have played 3 matches and won 2 of them. They are on their way to the semi final and have their destiny in their hands. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have been performing in the batting lineup for Team India. The bowlers in the form of Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are also making amends with the balls.
However, the thing to worry about is the form of the Indian openers. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are not in their best form. Especially KL Rahul, who is looking completely out of touch. There have been a lot of questions about his place in the T20 playing XI. Earlier, he had to also face criticism regarding his strike rate. Now, he is struggling to even put together meaningful scores. Therefore, India does need to develop a T20I opener for Team India.
In the ODI format as well, Shikhar Dhawan, who only plays one format for Team India has been looking out of touch. He along with Rohit Sharma is on the fag end of their career. So, India does require openers. One such option was Prithvi Shaw. Shaw has been making big scores since the time he was dropped from the India squad. He has impressed everyone with his aggressive batting. The Mumbaikar has also worked on his fitness.
Today, Indian selectors announced the T20I and ODI squad for the series against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup. They also announced the all-format squad for the series against Bangladesh. However, Shaw did not find his place in any of the squad. This has left the fans frustrated.
The chief selector, Chetan Sharma, however, clarified that Shaw will get the chance in the Indian team soon.
